Our customer’s steel facility required a ladle car capable of travelling and operating independent of the mill’s electrical system. The new car would transfer material between two buildings along a curved track with no shared power lines.
ProEn engineers devised a transfer car to run under diesel-electric power. A diesel generator system on board the car provides power to drive motors on the wheels, and also powers the ladle rotation and controls. The design includes a 300-gallon diesel tank which was sized to allow the car to run continuously for 24 hours without refueling.
